Rockwell is a well respected and long established, (founded in 1864), private boarding school in Cahir, Ireland. Rockwell is an historic building, so the decision to use Acrylicon flooring was not taken lightly by the college committee.

The land upon which Rockwell is built once formed part of a vast estate of Richard Boyle, Earl of Cork. At the beginning of the last century it was the property of William Roe, a barrister by profession, who rented the old mansion to the Marquis of Waterford in 1841. The property afterwards passed into the possession of Monsieur Charles Thiebault, a wealthy French Catholic with business in Dundee, Scotland. After his death his brother, Monsieur Gustave Thiebault donated it to the Scottish Bishops. In 1872 the College was re-organised for Secondary Studies and became the foundation of the school as it is today.

As this is a fully functioning college they had a very tight shut down window which could not be extended due to returning students. Acrylicon met and exceeded this tight deadline allowing for all equipment to be reinstated in the kitchens in plenty of time for the students return.

They had problems in both their kitchens and main senior dining hall with the condition of existing floors. The kitchen had vinyl which was both ripped in areas and coming off the substrate in other areas, it had long outlived its useful life. All of the vinyl and underlying plywood was removed before the installation of the Acrylicon floor.

The senior dining hall had asbestos tiles that were installed in the 1950’s. While in good condition the college wanted to get rid of the tiles due to the asbestos issues. The cost of removal was very prohibitive and they were very please when they discovered that Acrylicon could be over laid on top with the correct use of materials and installation methods.

The colour for both areas was chosen by the college principal and all members of the Rockwell refurbishment committee were pleased with the final results. They have asked for Acrylicon to come back and do further work in the college towards the end of October 2010.
