Nothing Slips By Canbra Foods
Canbra Foods wants a safe industrial floor for their staff as their #1 priority. Water and canola oil / margarine products on floors make an extremely slippery combination. Being hygienic and long-lasting would not matter, if the floor was as slippery as other industrial flooring products they have used.
Canbra Foods Ltd. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of James T. Richardson International Limited, a leading agri-business company in Canada. Canbra Foods Ltd. has an integrated canola processing and packaging facility in Lethbridge, Alberta.
Canbra was willing to try a new industrial flooring system. However, the single, most important pass-fail criteria identified while touring out in the plant was that a new floor must have adequate anti-slip for typical canola oil / water combination. It "must" be slip-safe for its workers. Otherwise, it would be no different than any of the other floor products that have been installed in the plant over the years.
Plant operating staff did not think that anything could meet this "must" criteria. After the test patch was completed in March, 2007, and only 20 minutes after the final seal coat was applied, canola oil and water were poured on the floor. Plant operating staff were invited to try and slip on the new floor. With great surprise, none of the workers found the floor excessively slippery and they all considered the Acrylicon Decor floor a great improvement over other flooring products tried in the plant.
In August, 2007, the blending laboratory had the ceramic tiles demolished, and the floor coated with Acrylicon Decor on 300 sq ft. Management watched the Acrylicon floor being installed and completed in 1 day.
After two months, the rave reviews for the Blend Lab continue to come in to Project Engineer, Ryan Ursu.
