14.10.09
The Design Standards and Change Management team from Tesco Stores Ltd have approved the Acrylicon Granito System as a viable alternative to Terrazzo.

Tesco along with many other supermarkets have trialled resins before, and been put off by their short term performance. In this case Tesco noted that they were not trying “a new system” but one that has been around, performing well, for over 30 years. Acrylicon’s impressive track record marked it out as different to other resins.
The team looked at a number of comparison points, and found that in most cases Acrylicon would be a better solution than Terrazzo – especially with respect to slip resistance.
Whilst the initial product cost is slightly higher than Terrazzo, the programme savings exceed the initial capital cost difference. The other benefit, is that with much shorter build times or refurbishment closing times, customer retention is dramatically improved.
Our first trial store, Tesco Metro in Whitton – London, is due to start next week.
